- Analýza narativů, jinými slovy analýza vyprávění, se řadí mezi jednu z nejdůležitějších metod v sociálních výzkumech. Slouží zejména pro lepší pochopení a srozumitelnost dění a jevů v sociálních vědách. Díky analýze narativů dochází k odhalování sociálního světa, jak jeho vznik, tak i instituce a procesy, které v něm probíhají. Narativní analýza je hojně využívána v kvalitativní metodologii a výzkumech. Podstatou narativní analýzy je vyprávění, což je jednoduchý způsob komunikace s informátory, a z toho důvodu je analýza používána i v okrajových oblastech společnosti a dovoluje nám proniknout do těchto oblastí. To je hlavním důvodem, proč se narativní analýza stala plnohodnotnou metodou v sociologických výzkumech. (cs)
- Narrative inquiry or narrative analysis emerged as a discipline from within the broader field of qualitative research in the early 20th century, as evidence exists that this method was used in psychology and sociology. Narrative inquiry uses field texts, such as stories, autobiography, journals, field notes, letters, conversations, interviews, family stories, photos (and other artifacts), and life experience, as the units of analysis to research and understand the way people create meaning in their lives as narratives. Narrative inquiry has been employed as a tool for analysis in the fields of cognitive science, organizational studies, knowledge theory, applied linguistics, sociology, occupational science and education studies, among others. Other approaches include the development of quantitative methods and tools based on the large volume captured by fragmented anecdotal material, and that which is self signified or indexed at the point of capture. Narrative Inquiry challenges the philosophy behind quantitative/grounded data-gathering and questions the idea of “objective” data; however, it has been criticized for not being “theoretical enough." In disciplines like applied linguistics, scholarly work has pointed out that enough critical mass of studies exists in the discipline that uses this theory, and that a framework can be developed to guide its application. - ナラティブ・インクワイアリー(Narrative Inquiry)とは、広義のナレッジマネジメントの分野で現れた学問分野のことである。（調査事実ではない）聞いた話を多数集めることを通して、（市場・労働者・市民などの）行動を理解する、というアプローチであり、ストーリーテリングとは異なる。社会科学の定性的研究において最近になって出てきた概念であり、認知言語学・組織論・・教育研究などのとして用いられる。 D. ClandininとF. Connellyによると、ナラティブ・インクワイアリーとは「研究のもとの現象として、そして研究方法としての両方のナラティブを理解すること」である。 (ja)
