- Shantinatha oder auch Shantinath ist der 16. der insgesamt 24 Tirthankaras der Jaina-Religion; sein Name beinhaltet das Sanskrit-Wort shanti (शान्ति śānti), welches sinngemäß mit „Frieden“, „innere Stille“, „Ruhen der Sinne“ etc. übersetzt werden kann. Seine Lebensbeschreibung ist im um 1250 entstandenen Shāntinātha Charitra niedergelegt – ein Werk, das von der UNESCO als schriftliches Kulturerbe der Menschheit anerkannt wurde. (de)
- Shantinatha was the sixteenth Jain tirthankar of the present age (Avasarpini). Shantinatha was born to King Vishvasena and Queen Aiira at Hastinapur in the Ikshvaku dynasty. His birth date is the thirteenth day of the Jyest Krishna month of the Indian calendar. He was also a Chakravartin and a Kamadeva. He ascended to the throne when he was 25 years old. After over 25,000 years at the throne, he became a Jain monk and started his penance. According to Jain beliefs, he became a siddha, a liberated soul which has destroyed all of its karma. (en)

Il régna donc avant de devenir ascète puis d'atteindre le nirvana au Mont Sammeda dans l'état du Jharkhand. Son nom vient du mot paix: shanti en sanskrit car l'histoire raconte qu'à sa naissance une grande paix envahit la terre entière et même les enfers. Son symbole est le cerf. (fr)

Родился в городе Хастинапур, на 13 день второй половины индийского месяца джьештха. После восхождения на трон, Шантинатха ведёт завоевательные походы, двигаясь на восток. Большинство царей на его пути сдались без сопротивления, а после победы над оставшимися царствами он становится чакраватином. После долгого и счастливого правления Шантинатха стал аскетом, начав духовную практику. Через год после ухода из мира, на 9 день светлой половины месяца пауша он достигает всеведения. Его первая речь была посвящена укрощению чувств. После долгих лет скитаний и проповедования истинного учения Шантинатха начал месячный пост, а на 13 день второй половины индийского месяца джьештха достиг нирваны. (ru)
