- Beatmatching je technika používaná klubovými DJ pro plynulý přechod mezi skladbami v jejich setu. Jedná se o srovnání rychlosti hrané a vmíchávané skladby, při níž se docílí stejného tempa a rytmus obou skladeb se vzájemně překryje. Vznikne tak dojem jednotného beatu a DJ pak na mixážním pultu může obě skladby prolnout dohromady, a postupně přejít plynule od jedné skladby do druhé, aniž by měl posluchač rozeznat, kdy k přechodu mezi skladbami došlo. Aby bylo kromě tempa možné srovnat jednotlivé rytmy, musí být skladby stejného nebo podobného rytmického žánru. Pro srovnání rychlosti skladeb se používá tzv. pitch. To je lineární fader v pravém dolním rohu gramofonu, nebo u modernějších CD přehrávačů. Standardní rozsah pitche na gramofonech značky Technics je od -8% do +8% rychlosti. U jiných typů přehrávačů a gramofonů se však může lišit, např. -10% až + 10% nebo dokonce -20% až +20%. (cs)

Beatmatching is a component of beatmixing which employs beatmatching combined with equalization, attention to phrasing and track selection in an attempt to make a single mix that flows together and has a good structure. The technique was developed to keep the people from leaving the dancefloor at the end of the song. These days it is considered basic among disc jockeys (DJs) in electronic dance music genres, and it is standard practice in clubs to keep the constant beat through the night, even if DJs change in the middle. - El beatmatching (del inglés, beat «pulso» y match «coincidir») o pitch cue («señal de tono») es una técnica musical usada por los DJs por la que se altera la velocidad (Time stretching) de una pista para que su tempo musical coincida con la de otra pista, de modo que se sincronizan los beats (y, generalmente, los compases) de ambas canciones. El beatmatching forma parte de lo que se denomina beatmixing que emplea beatmatching combinado con ecualización, atención al fraseo y selección de pista en un intento de hacer una mezcla única que fluya y tenga una buena estructura. La técnica fue desarrollada para evitar que la gente abandonase la pista de baile tras acabar la canción, ya que se enlaza con la siguiente sin necesidad de pausas. En estos días se considera básico entre los DJs de música electrónica saber dominar el beatmatching, y es una práctica estándar en los clubes mantener el ritmo constante durante toda la noche, incluso si los DJ se relevan. - Le calage tempo, dont l'anglicisme beatmatching est plus explicite, est une technique de mixage audio étroitement liée au fondu enchaîné. Il s'agit d'une technique permettant d'enchaîner des morceaux de musique généralement techno, house ou trance (mais également rap ou R'n'B : il suffit que le rythme soit suffisamment marqué) en gardant un même tempo (appelé BPM pour « beats per minute », soit le nombre de « battements par minute » pour garder l'analogie cardiaque). Cette technique de mix peut être utilisée par tout DJ disposant de platines (vinyles, CD ou tout support audio) dont la vitesse de lecture moyenne peut être modifiée grâce à une fonction appelée pitch. D'une manière générale, l'objectif du DJ est de passer d'un morceau A à un morceau B, sachant que le tempo du second devra être ajusté pour être identique au premier. En effet la diffusion simultanée de deux morceaux qui ont des tempo différents se traduit vite par une cacophonie. Le DJ doit donc régler le tempo du morceau B (morceau entrant) afin qu'il soit le plus proche possible du tempo du morceau A (morceau sortant). Pour simplifier, il écoute le morceau B seul dans son casque et compare « à l'oreille » avec le morceau A diffusé dans la salle, en modifiant sa vitesse de lecture pour synchroniser. Des logiciels et des outils permettent également d'effectuer cette manipulation automatiquement (à l'aide de la touche SYNC si on utilise un contrôleur DJ) avec plus ou moins de réussite en fonction des musiques, et dans ce cas l'anglicisme employé est plutôt beatmapping. Lorsqu'il a vérifié que la synchronisation perdurait suffisamment (au moins plusieurs dizaines de secondes), il peut remettre le morceau B depuis le début (en gardant le réglage de tempo) et utiliser sa table de mixage pour faire apparaître le morceau entrant puis disparaître le morceau sortant de manière élégante. Cette discipline requiert donc de connaître parfaitement les morceaux joués, l'enchaînement de leurs phases (intro, montée, refrain, bridge, break) afin d'assurer des transitions. (fr)
