- أدب الجاسوسية هو نوع أدبي يتضمن التجسس باعتباره سياقًا مُهمًا أو أداة مُؤامرة، ظهر في أوائل القرن العشرين. ظهر هذا النوع نتيجة للتنافس والمُؤامرات بين القوى الكبرى، إضافة إلى إنشاء وكالات استخبارات حديثة. تقوم فكرته الأساسية على صراع معلوماتي بين طرفين يمثلان دولتين أو أكثر، ويستند غالبًا إلى حقائق واقعية وتتداخل فيه الأبعاد الإنسانية التي تجسّدها حركة الشخصيات مُعتمدًا على وسائل سردية لتوفير عوامل الإثارة والتشويق والترقب، وتجاوز الطابع الوثائقي الذي تعتمد عليه طبيعة تلك النصوص من حيث اعتماد أحداثه على استقصاء معلوماتي له مآربه التي تتجاوز التعبير عن نوازع وتصرفات فردية. تطور كثيرًا بتطور الفاشية والشيوعية في الفترة التي سبقت الحرب العالمية الثانية، واستمر في التطور إبان الحرب الباردة، واستمد قوته مرة جديدة مع ظهور الدول المارقة والمنظمات الإجرامية الدولية والشبكات الإرهابية العالمية، والقرصنة البحرية والتخريب التكنولوجي والتجسس بمثابة تهديدات قوية للمجتمعات الغربية. ويرتبط هذا النوع بشكل موضوعي برواية المغامرة مثل سجين زندا وأعمال إدغار والاس على سبيل المثال. - Spy fiction is a genre of literature involving espionage as an important context or plot device. It emerged in the early twentieth century, inspired by rivalries and intrigues between the major powers, and the establishment of modern intelligence agencies. It was given new impetus by the development of fascism and communism in the lead-up to World War II, continued to develop during the Cold War, and received a fresh impetus from the emergence of rogue states, international criminal organizations, global terrorist networks, maritime piracy and technological sabotage and espionage as potent threats to Western societies. As a genre, spy fiction is thematically related to the novel of adventure (The Prisoner of Zenda, 1894, The Scarlet Pimpernel, 1905), the thriller (such as the works of Edgar Wallace) and the politico-military thriller (The Schirmer Inheritance, 1953, The Quiet American, 1955). - La letteratura di spionaggio o spionistica (anche detta, secondo un'espressione inglese diffusa anche in Italia, spy story) è un genere narrativo incentrata sul tema dello spionaggio internazionale. È un genere estremamente popolare che si è imposto anche nel cinema, nella televisione e in altri media. Nel senso più ampio, questo genere include opere anche molto diverse fra loro, che possono avere di volta in volta elementi di contatto con il giallo, il thriller, il poliziesco, il noir, la e persino la fantapolitica e la fantascienza (fantaspionaggio). Tradizionalmente, la critica letteraria stenta a riconoscere la letteratura di spionaggio come genere letterario "nobile" (con l'eccezione di grandi opere come quelle di Ian Fleming), mentre il genere gode di una grande popolarità presso il pubblico (e ancora oggi appartiene, per esempio, alla rosa dei generi più sfruttati nelle produzioni cinematografiche hollywoodiane).
