- The Order of the Stick (kurz OotS) ist ein Fantasy-Webcomic, der auf dem Rollenspiel Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) basiert. Ursprünglich ein reiner Webcomic, existieren mittlerweile neun gedruckte Bücher mit den gesammelten Comicstrips, einschließlich zahlreicher Bonus-Strips, die nicht im Internet erschienen sind. Der finanzielle Erfolg des Comics ermöglichte es dem Autor , seinen alten Job zu kündigen und sich ganz dem Comic zu widmen. Ursprünglich erschien der Comic zweimal pro Woche, zwischendurch dreimal, mittlerweile aber wieder unregelmäßig. OotS erscheint seit dem 29. September 2003 auf Rich Burlews Website, im Wesentlichen ununterbrochen bis heute. Die längste Pause, bedingt durch eine Handverletzung Burlews, war von September bis Dezember 2012. Der Comic wird in unregelmäßigen Abständen aktualisiert, bisher (Stand Juni 2020) sind 1205 Seiten erschienen. Seinen Witz bezieht der Comic oft aus der Tatsache, dass im OotS-Universum anscheinend die Naturgesetze/Spielregeln aus dem Rollenspiel D&D gelten, und die Charaktere dies auch wissen – sie diskutieren über ihre Trefferpunkte, Gesinnungen, Stufen und Klassen. Mit der Zeit hat sich der Comic allerdings von den schnellen Gags wegbewegt und legt mehr Gewicht auf eine epische Geschichte. Anspielungen auf Werke aus dem Geek-Kanon (z. B. Harry Potter, Monty Python, Wile E. Coyote, Final Fantasy, Der Herr der Ringe, Star Wars, Matrix, Der Wüstenplanet, Babylon 5) und aus verschiedenen Sagenwelten haben ebenso ihren Platz wie das feinsinnige Karikieren der Interaktionen realer Rollenspielgruppen. - The Order of the Stick (OOTS) is a comedic webcomic that satirizes tabletop role-playing games and medieval fantasy. The comic is written and drawn by Rich Burlew, who illustrates the comic in a stick figure style. Taking place in a magical world that loosely operates by the rules of the 3.5 edition of the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), the comic follows the sometimes farcical exploits of six adventurers as they strive to save the world from an evil lich sorcerer. Much of the comic's humor stems from the characters' awareness of the game rules that affect their lives or from having anachronistic knowledge of modern culture. This in turn is often used by the author to parody various aspects of role-playing games and fantasy fiction. While primarily comedic in nature, The Order of the Stick features a continuing storyline serialized in one- to four-page episodes, with over 1200 such episodes released as of October 2021. Although it is principally distributed online through the website Giant in the Playground, ten book collections have been published, including several print-only stories (On the Origin of PCs, Start of Darkness, and Good Deeds Gone Unpunished). An alternate version of the strip appeared monthly in Dragon magazine for 22 issues; these strips, among others, are collected in Snips, Snails and Dragon Tales. (en)
- The Order of the Stick (często skracane do OotS) – postmodernistyczny komiks internetowy, w którym obiektem satyry jest m.in. drużyna postaci z gry fabularnej Dungeons & Dragons oraz system d20. Pomimo że to komiks internetowy, pojawiło się już dziewięć zbiorów opowieści wydanych w formie papierowej (trzy z tych zbiorów – On the Origin of PCs, Start of Darkness i Good Deeds Gone Unpunished pokazują jedynie historie, które nie pojawiły się w internecie). Komiks pojawił się także w magazynie Dragon od numeru 338 (grudzień 2005). Liczba sprzedanych przedpremierowo egzemplarzy pierwszego papierowego wydania komiksu (Dungeon Crawlin' Fools) sprawiła że autor, Rich Burlew, porzucił dotychczas wykonywaną przez siebie pracę i zajął się wyłącznie tworzeniem kolejnych odcinków. Sprawiło to, że liczba ukazujących się w ciągu tygodnia odcinków wzrosła z dwóch (poniedziałek i czwartek) do trzech. Jednakże 7 lipca 2007 Rich ogłosił, iż w związku z problemami zdrowotnymi z powrotem obniży tempo prac. W efekcie „nie ma żadnego terminarza” (ang. there is no schedule) wydawania nowych odcinków komiksu. Zarówno scenariusz komiksu jak i grafika (charakterystyczna prostota rysowanych postaci) jest autorstwa Richa Burlewa, grafika i twórcy gier mieszkającego w Filadelfii. Większość rysunków jest wykonywana za pomocą komputera, scenki historyczne są natomiast rysowane ręcznie za pomocą kredek, by można je było łatwo odróżnić od dziejących się aktualnie wydarzeń. Autor wielokrotnie zmieniał sposób rysowania, oddając coraz więcej szczegółów, lecz zachowując prostotę ukazania twarzy postaci, co jest w zabawny sposób skomentowane w odcinku 339. (pl)
- The Order of the Stick (abbreviato in OOTS) è un fumetto umoristico centrato sul gioco di ruolo fantasy Dungeons & Dragons e altri giochi simili, creato dal designer, grafico e designer di giochi ; è disegnato in un deliberato stile a bastoncino. Pubblicato sul web, è ancora in corso, e le nuove strisce appaiono ad intervalli irregolari. Il fumetto segue le vicende di un gruppo di avventurieri, l'Order of the Stick, che tentano di salvare il mondo da un lich malvagio, ed è ambientato in un mondo che segue (almeno in parte) le regole dell'edizione 3.5 di Dungeons & Dragons; parte dello humour è basata sul fatto che i personaggi sono consapevoli delle regole che governano le loro vite: discutono dei loro punti ferita, dei loro livelli di classe, delle probabilità di fare incontri casuali, e si fermano nel mezzo di un combattimento per controllare i loro modificatori al tiro per colpire. Dopo essere stato pubblicato su Internet, sono state prodotte anche dieci raccolte in formato cartaceo, alcune delle quali raccolgono strisce già pubblicate, mentre altre propongono contenuti inediti.
