- AIDS (littéralement SIDA en anglais) est un virus informatique codé en Turbo Pascal 3.01a qui écrit sur les fichiers .com. C'est le premier virus connu qui a exploité la faille "fichier correspondant" de MS-DOS. Sous MS-DOS, si les deux fichiers foo.com et foo.exe existent, alors foo.com sera toujours exécuté en premier. Le virus AIDS écrit sur les 13 952 bytes d'un fichier .com infecté. Ces fichiers corrompus doivent être supprimés et remplacés par des sauvegardes non corrompues pour supprimer le virus. Il est impossible de récupérer l'information originale du fichier sur la partie réécrite.Le virus AIDS II semble être une version plus élégante de AIDS. Il virus AIDS è il primo virus che sfrutta la vulnerabilità nota come "file corrispondente" dell'MS-DOS: se sul disco sono presenti 2 file con lo stesso nome ma con l'estensione rispettivamente .EXE e .COM, ad esempio file.com e file.exe, digitando semplicemente file sull'interfaccia a riga di comando il sistema esegue sempre il file con estensione .COM. Sfruttando questo difetto del sistema, il virus creava delle copie di sé stesso salvandole con il nome di file con estensione .EXE esistenti sul disco ma aggiungendo l'estensione .COM, di modo che la copia del virus fosse eseguita al posto del programma originale. AIDS jest pierwszym znanym wirusem wykorzystującym jedną z właściwości systemu operacyjnego MS-DOS; polega ona na tym, że po wpisaniu za znakiem zachęty nazwy pliku bez rozszerzenia w momencie, gdy istnieją dwa pliki – o rozszerzeniach *.com i *.exe, w pierwszej kolejności uruchomiony zostaje plik z rozszerzeniem *.com. A zatem poprzez tworzenie przez AIDS zainfekowanych plików *.com (np. notepad.com), będą one uruchomione w pierwszeństwie przed zamierzonym plikiem *.exe (np. notepad.exe), o ile użytkownik za znakiem zachęty poda nazwę pliku bez rozszerzenia.
