- La University of Edinburgh School of Informatics (l'École des sciences informatiques de l’université d'Édimbourg) est née de la fusion des départements d’intelligence artificielle, de science informatique et de science cognitive de l’université d'Édimbourg en 1998. La recherche à l'école d’informatique se base sur des composantes de ces disciplines et est de nature interdisciplinaire. L'école est particulièrement connue pour la recherche dans les domaines de l'intelligence artificielle, de l'informatique linguistique et de l'informatique théorique, mais elle est aussi impliquée dans d'autres secteurs. L'école a un personnel de recherche de plus de 130 individus, un personnel scolaire de 75 personnes, et autour de 250 étudiants de troisième cycle. L'école s’est vu attribuer un 5*A à l'exercice d'évaluation des recherches du HEFC du gouvernement britannique, la note la plus élevée parmi tous les départements de science informatique du pays. Elle est généralement considérée comme un chef de file mondial en science informatique, rivalisant avec les instituts les plus prestigieux des États-Unis[réf. nécessaire]. L'incendie du Cowgate en décembre 2002 a détruit un de ses bâtiments, et la renommée bibliothèque AI. Un espace a été rapidement rendu disponible dans la tour d'Appleton de l'université à titre de remplacement. En juin 2008, la majorité de l'école s'est installée dans l'Informatics Forum, construit à cet effet. (fr)
- The School of Informatics is an academic unit of the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland, responsible for research, teaching, outreach and commercialisation in informatics. It was created in 1998 from the former Department of Artificial Intelligence, the Centre for Cognitive Science and the Department of Computer Science, along with the Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute (AIAI) and the Human Communication Research Centre. Research in the School of Informatics draws on multiple disciplines. The school is particularly known for research in the areas of artificial intelligence, computational linguistics, systems biology, mathematical logic and theoretical computer science; but also contributes to many other areas of informatics. The School of Informatics was ranked 12th in the world by the QS World University Rankings 2014. As of 2022, the school is ranked 1st in the UK according to CSRankings, 1st in the UK in the latest 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) by research power, and 1st in the world for natural language processing (NLP).
