Die Brücke überquert den Rhein nicht im rechten Winkel, um das Wassergewinnungsgebiet des alten Wasserwerkes Flehe zu schonen. Die Fleher Brücke hat den höchsten Brückenpylon in Deutschland und die größte Spannweite aller deutschen Schrägseilbrücken. Bei ihrer Fertigstellung war sie mit einer Hauptspannweite von 368 m zudem die am weitesten gespannte einhüftige Schrägseilbrücke der Welt.
